About Cam Bunton

Cam has worked in online tech reporting since 2010 and has a BA (Hons) degree in TV and Film Production. His responsibilities at Pocket-lint include planning our video strategy, then producing and hosting quality, personable and informative videos natively on the site, as well as your growing YouTube channel and social platforms. Prior to Pocket-lint he honed his written and video skills at 9to5Google and PhoneDog Media (now Slashdot).

In that time, his areas of focus and expertise have mostly been smartphones, smartwatches and headphones, but with experience filming for the channel, he's equally adept at reviewing cameras. In his spare time, he's usually throwing kettlebells around, running, playing guitar or training in the arts of coffee snobbery. He's also bilingual, and able to speak and write in English and Welsh.

What was your first phone?

My first own phone — and this will age me — was a Mitsubishi Trium Geo. It was a cool little candy bar phone with a keypad cover that flipped down to uncover the buttons and, more importantly, had an extending antenna. It was also one of the first phones on the UK market with Mobile Internet. Once the Nokia 3310 was launched though, it was game over for the Trium. I ditched it quicker than you could say Snake II.

When did your interested in technology begin?

I've been into tech as long ago as my earliest memories stretched. Huddled around our family Commodore Amiga with my siblings, playing Lemmings, Buggy Boy and The New Zealand Story, I was hooked. Anything powered by batteries or electronics was magical to me, whether that was a noisy, flashing robot toy, a Lego Technics set with moving cogs and a battery pack, or our very first Windows PC with CD-ROM and a built-in modem.

What tech products or categories are you most passionate about?

I love anything small and mobile, because it still has that sense of magic to me. Whether that's smartphones or wearables. I've always love seeing how tech develops and seeing new trends and innovations appear. Whether that's when the first multi-touch displays landed, or seeing bezels shrink to almost nothing or - more recently - when the first crop of foldable smartphones made an appearance.
