The once unthinkable has occurred: Apple is banned from selling not one but two different products over a patent dispute that dates back more than a decade. As of Jan. 17, 2024, the company is selling modified versions of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 in the US that do not include the blood oxygen monitoring functionality those wearables previously featured.

Earlier this month, Apple won a temporary stay, but that's now set to expire after a US court denied the company's request for a longer respite. As a result, pending a software update from Apple that would disable the pulse oximetry tech found on the Series 9 and Ultra 2, the smartwatches will once more become unavailable on Apple's webstore. Thankfully, the Apple Watch Series 9 is available at its best price yet across several retailers.

It hasn't been a good few weeks for Apple and the Apple Watch, at least in the United States. The company saw its Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 warables banned in the country over Christmas due to a patent infringement case with medical device maker Masimo. Apple had already appealed the ban and a short stay was put in place -- but that all changed today with the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit lifting the stay, which will once again prevent Apple from selling its two best Apple Watches on its home turf.
